From the moment we emerge from our dear Mum's womb we have been categorized.
1) ITS A GIRL!!!
2) SO WHAT SHALL WE CALL HER
3) ISN'T SHE SWEET
4) SHE DOESN'T LIKE RUSKS!
5) SO WHAT NURSERY IS SHE GOING TO
6)ETC ETC
It goes on and on - first of all - all the grown ups who categorize themselves do it for us then we learn that this is what we need to do for our self.
Q) So what do you do?
A) Oh I'm a........
We do it to create an identity a personality so we can compare and contrast.
The other day this lady asked me what I did for a living I responded "Meditation"
Ah she said knowingly...
That was the end of the engagement.
What makes it worse is if you wear a uniform this actually bolsters one sense of truly being a soldier or a member of staff at MacDonalds.
Of course we all have roles and parts to play - but its taking the part so seriously that often undermines our ability to be happy.
Our emotional life can feel so real because our feelings seem so real - because we want to feel so alive.
Mountain out of a molehill syndrome - creating mini soap operas to make us feel alive.
We are alive anyway.
Judgment comes from this way of thinking - "oh there one of them!"
We can straight jacket our self and then just make do.
Or we can change the way we look at our self and the world around us - liberate our mind from its limitations by identifying with our potential not our job, bank account, qualification or possessions....
